Anxiety & Phobia
With a societal focus on mental health, anxiety is recognised being a debilitating condition that can negatively affect a person. It can affect all ages, genders, and ethnicities. it is particularly affecting young people who are prevented from reaching their goals and being the true version of themselves.
Hear from my clients:
“I had a session with Helena before my A Level exams due to exam anxiety and stress. At the time, I found it hard to revise, as my anxiety was so limiting. The session I had lasted only about 1.5 hours, but was incredibly useful. Throughout this time, Helena both unpicked my mind’s reasoning and addressed contributing underlying factors surrounding my anxiety to enable me to overcome these thought processes. Helena’s calm and open manner really put me at ease and she allowed me to go at my own pace, enabling me to almost lead the session. After this session, I felt able to deal with exam stresses and performed to a good level. I would absolutely recommend Helena’s services to anyone with anxiety issues, and would definitely return to her for further sessions!” – N.M
Anxiety can take a range of forms
With a generalised anxiety condition, you may feel extreme and unrealistic worry and tension – even if there’s nothing to trigger these feelings. Most days, you may worry a lot about various topics, including health, work, relationships, school and transitions to new levels such as changing schools, the pressure of exams, leaving school to join the workforce or attending university. You may feel that the worry continues from one thing to the next.
Physical symptoms of GAD can include restlessness, difficulty concentrating and sleeping problems, and overthinking the source of the anxiety to the point of feeling ill.
A more severe form of anxiety can lead to panic attacks. These attacks often feature stronger, more intense feelings than other types of anxiety conditions. The feelings of terror may start suddenly and unexpectedly or they may come from a trigger, like facing a situation you dread.
During a panic attack, you may experience sweating, heart palpitations (feeling like your heart is pounding), chest pain and a feeling of choking. Panic attacks are very upsetting. People with panic disorder often spend a lot of time worrying about the next panic attack. They also try to avoid situations that might trigger an attack.

Fear is rational and when fear becomes irrational it is a phobia. An irrational fear is driven by emotions, which is why willpower, facts and reassurance tend to have little impact. A phobia affects social interaction and quality of life, as a person protects themselves from their irrational fear.
- Irrational fears affect 1 in 10 people at some time in their lives.
- Women are twice as likely to experience a phobia than men.
- The average age for a phobia is mid-twenties, although a phobia can develop at any age to anybody.
- Phobias can easily develop in childhood when around an anxious or fearful adult member of their peer group.
- The most common phobias are spiders and social phobias. A phobia is not an illness and is not due to a lack of willpower, ‘moral fibre’ or lack of determination.
No one needs to have to ‘learn to live with’ a phobia.
NLP assists phobia sufferers in achieving fast and long-lasting change and so removing anxiety and stress associated with the phobia.
